Design Features

Name Hierarchy

The template displays names in a carefully designed visual hierarchy:

  • Large Bold (125% size, same prominence as main name): |name=, |hindi_name=
  • Small Text (85% size, grouped together): |native_name=, |amp_devanagari=

This ensures proper prominence for multilingual names while maintaining aesthetic appeal and readability.

Religion/Dharma Logic

Automatically determines label based on religious tradition:

  • Dharmic religions (Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh) → Label: "Dharma"
  • All other religions (Islam, Christianity, Judaism, etc.) → Label: "Religion"

This respects cultural and philosophical distinctions between Dharmic and Abrahamic traditions.

Multiple Office Support

Each political office appears as a distinct subsection with blue background containing:

  • Office order and name in header
  • Acting/official status indicator
  • Term dates (or "In office: [start] – present" if current)
  • Supervisory hierarchy (Monarch, President, PM, Governor, etc.)
  • Appointing authority
  • Predecessor and successor information
  • Constituency (for elected positions)

This allows clear visualization of:

  • Career progression through multiple positions
  • Chronological order of offices
  • Relationship between different roles
  • Administrative hierarchy for each position

Modern Aesthetic

  • Clean, uncluttered layout with spacious padding
  • Subtle light blue color scheme:
 - Main background: #e3f2fd (light blue)
 - Header background: #bbdefb (slightly darker blue)
  • Hierarchical information display with clear visual separations

  • Proper spacing and alignment for readability
  • Bold headers for easy scanning

Troubleshooting

Offices Not Appearing

  • Solution: Ensure you've filled in the |office= or |office2=, etc. parameter with a non-empty value
  • Blank office parameters will not display their subsections
  • Check that you're using the correct parameter name (|office3= not |office_3=)

Acting Status Not Showing

  • Solution: Set |acting= to exactly "yes" (case-sensitive)
  • Make sure at least |term_start= is filled in for that office
  • Acting status only displays if set; leaving it blank will not show "Status: Acting"

Hindi Name Not Bold

  • Solution: The hindi_name parameter should automatically display in bold
  • Check that the template code has proper font-weight:bold; in subheader styling
  • Verify you're entering the parameter as |hindi_name=, not |hindi name=

Multiple Offices Overlapping

  • Solution: Each office should get its own blue subheader automatically
  • If they're not separating, ensure each office (|office2=, |office3=, etc.) has a distinct name
  • Check that conditional logic is working properly

Term Dates Format

  • Accepted formats: "7 September 2021", "September 2021", "2021", "7–15 September 2021"
  • Use "–" (en dash) not "-" (hyphen) for date ranges
  • For ranges: "7 September 2021 – 15 March 2022"

Too Many Labels Showing

  • Solution: The template uses conditional logic |
  1. if:= to only show labels when data is present
  • If empty parameters are still showing labels, verify the conditional structure is correct
  • Test with a minimal example first

Best Practices

General

  • Use wikilinks for all person names and institutional names
  • Maintain chronological order for multiple offices (earliest to latest)
  • Include complete information for each office (predecessor, successor, dates)
  • Use consistent date formatting throughout

Name Parameters

  • Always fill |name= with the most common English name
  • Use |hindi_name= for Hindi Devanagari versions
  • Use |native_name= for original language names (Pashto, Persian, Gujarati, etc.)
  • Use |amp_devanagari= only if transliteration differs from hindi_name

Religion Parameter

  • Use full denomination names for precision (e.g., "Sunni Islam" not "Islam")
  • Include school of thought/jurisprudence for detailed religious information
  • The template automatically handles "Dharma" vs "Religion" labeling
  • Use wikilinks to religious tradition articles

Political Offices

  • Start with |office= (no suffix) for the most important/current position
  • Use |office2=, |office3=, etc. for additional positions
  • Set |acting= to "yes" only if not the official holder
  • Always provide |predecessor= and |successor= when known
  • Fill |primeminister=, |president=, or |monarch= to show supervisory relationships

Multiple Offices Organization

  • Order offices chronologically (earliest to latest)
  • For officials serving under multiple governments, indicate the change in |president=, |primeminister=, or |monarch=
  • Leave predecessor/successor blank if truly unknown; don't guess
