Notability[edit source]
I believe this lacks notability as larger groups like Bania and Rajput are notable but smaller inter-groups should be listed in one single article or should be made a separte wiki domain such as Jatland.com.
“A company, corporation, organization, group, product, or service is notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in multiple reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject.”
Bharatpedia:Notability (organizations and companies)
@Bharatwiki Socrates believes this is notable as Joshua is considered significant coverage by him. I think it sti lacks multiple reliable sources. Other admins like @Ajay Kumar @WikiDwarf @Editorial Oversight can give their opinions. Dokania😎(📩) 13:46, 17 October 2026 (IST)
- At first we aren't going to create seperate branch for caste related articles. Bharatpedia:Notability (organizations and companies) need lots of improvement, I will fix it in time. It's a 2022 imported page with lots of other encyclopedia old consensus. 🍁Bharatwiki Socrates🍁(📩) 14:05, 17 October 2026 (IST)
- I mean those who want to list all the sub-castes of their caste/community should make a separate domain wiki like Jatland Dokania😎(📩) 14:08, 17 October 2026 (IST)
- I have reviewed the current draft and would like to raise several serious issues regarding sourcing (BP:RS), factual accuracy, original synthesis (BP:SYNTH), and notability (BP:GNG, BP:SURNAME) before this can be considered ready for mainspace:
- 1. Unreliable sources (BP:RS)
- All four citations currently used in the draft fail Wikipedia's reliable sourcing guidelines:
- [Forebears.io]: Consistently rejected across Wikipedia (see BP:RSN) as an algorithmic aggregator and user-submitted database without scholarly editorial oversight.
- [Joshua Project]: Broadly considered unreliable on English Wikipedia for South Asian anthropology, caste taxonomy, and ethnic history. It is an evangelical missionary database with widely documented errors, misclassifications, and romanticized boilerplate entries.
- [MyHeritage]: Commercial genealogy platform blurbs are marketing-oriented, often crowd-sourced or auto-generated, and do not constitute peer-reviewed academic onomastics (e.g., academic dictionaries of surnames).
- 2. Factual errors and conflation
- Rajput connection vs. anthropological consensus: The claim citing the Joshua Project that Ladia are "a sub-community of Rajputs known for bravery and riding horses" directly contradicts scholarly and official Indian demographic records. In state census data and anthropological literature (e.g., in Madhya Pradesh), the Ladiya community is historically recorded as a Scheduled Caste (traditionally engaged in leatherworking/tanning) or OBC, not Rajputs. Relying on an evangelical database for caste taxonomy introduces severe historical and social inaccuracies.
- Slavic etymology: Attributing the name in Europe to the Slavic root lad ("harmony/order") from Austro-Hungary is an unsubstantiated folk etymology taken from MyHeritage. In Slavic linguistics, ladya/ladia typically denotes an archaic vessel/boat (ладья) or serves as a hypocoristic/diminutive of given names like Vladislava or Lada. Academic onomastic literature does not support this as a standalone established European surname category.
- 3. Original synthesis (BP:SYNTH)
- Grouping an Indian Baniya surname, a central Indian community, and a coincidental European homophone into a single narrative without a secondary source that specifically discusses them together violates BP:SYNTH. Mere homophony (sharing the same Latin-alphabet spelling) does not justify combining disparate ethnic, linguistic, and geographical terms into one encyclopedic article.
- 4. Notability and next steps (BP:SURNAME)
- Per BP:SURNAME, standalone surname articles require extensive secondary coverage dedicated to the history and etymology of the name itself.
- To be kept as a standalone encyclopedic article, this draft must be rewritten entirely using academic, peer-reviewed anthropological, linguistic, or historical sources.
- Alternatively, if independent etymological notability cannot be shown, the standard procedure is to format this as a Set Index Article (BP:SIA) or Disambiguation page (BP:DAB), listing existing, notable Wikipedia biographical subjects with this surname. If there are no existing notable subjects on Wikipedia bearing this surname, the page should not be moved to mainspace. Dokania😎(📩) 08:06, 4 November 2026 (IST)
- Your above Ai generated respose provide hallucinated fact. BP:SURNAME doesn't exist here. You're on Bharatpedia not Wikipedia, this is why I personally dislike AI generated responses with no Human touch as it provides sometime fabricated response. According to BP:NSOCIAL :
Social groups are considered inherently notable and do not require significant coverage in independent reliable sources to warrant a standalone article.
🍁Bharatwiki Socrates🍁(📩) 08:45, 4 November 2026 (IST)- Dude! You have literally added that line today. Simply speaking, Ladia needs more in-depth reliable sources to be considered notable. I think Notability tag should be there atleast. Dokania😎(📩) 08:54, 4 November 2026 (IST)
- It requires {{India-ethno-group-stub}} tag, which is already present as it intended for the future development and expansion of the article. The notability tag is for articles whose notability is highly doubtful and which are therefore always at risk of an AfD nomination. 🍁Bharatwiki Socrates🍁(📩) 09:34, 4 November 2026 (IST)
- I think you should go through the AI summary of issues in the articles. Ladia is more of a surname than a community. They can be included in a list of similar communities but don't warrant a standalone article. Anyways, Its upto you to decide. Dokania😎(📩) 09:37, 4 November 2026 (IST)
- @Bharatwiki Socrates This user reported me, but it seems they do not fully understand Bharatpedia's guidelines and editing processes. I still consider your behaviour over smart. Over the past few days, several administrators have explained your mistakes, yet you continue disputing their decisions instead of understanding the guidelines and following the proper workflow. If this behaviour continues, you may eventually face an administrative block. Editorial Oversight(Talk with me) 09:55, 4 November 2026 (IST)
