Fr Stephen Gomez

Stephen Gomez was born on 8 August 1938, in Manapad of the civil district of Thoothukudi, of the Roman Catholic diocese of Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, India. He was ordained a priest for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tuticorin on 2 December 1964.[1]

Achievements[edit]

Rev.Fr.Stephen Gomez is the founder and long time director of Valampurinatham which is situated in Virapandianpatnam, Tamil Nadu, India. Valampurinatham is an Institute for Research in Society and Religion (IRSR) which animates the local community members towards community and social development.[2] IRSR provides social education to the rural youth and families, organises meetings and seminars on theme of socio religious harmony, and provides education on the role of media in social education.[3] This research institute has a special library of books and documents related to religion and society.[4] It is also a non-governmental organization.[5]
