The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a global document ratified by the United Nations General Assembly, which establishes the rights and liberties of every individual. It was crafted by a UN committee led by Eleanor Roosevelt and was adopted as Resolution 217 during the General Assembly's third session on December 10, 1948, at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, France. Out of the 58 member states of the United Nations at that time, 48 were in favor of the declaration, none opposed it, eight abstained from voting, and two chose not to participate in the vote.
