Raiganj: Difference between revisions

According to the legends, [[Pandava]]s settled around in the area during their period in exile. This area was ruled by a succession of mighty kingdoms. However, it was during the rule of the Dinajpur Raj (1722-1760) that it got its distinctiveness. On 15 August 1947, when India was granted independence, the area was in a state of confusion, but when the [[Radcliffe Line]], demarcating the borders between India and Pakistan was published on 17 August 1947 Raiganj, then in the undivided Dinajpur district, was placed in India and the new district of [[West Dinajpur district|West Dinajpur]] was created.
