Mohan was born in [[Anantapur]], [[Andhra Pradesh]]. He is an alumnus of Korukonda Sainik School, Andhra Pradesh; [[National Defence Academy (India)|National Defence Academy]], Pune; and [[Defence Services Staff College]], Wellington.
