| Shankerpura is a tiny place dominated by Christians who mainly grow [[Jasmine]] flowers and the common spoken language here is [[konkani]]. Locally and in Kannada called as Mallige. These flowers are transported to [[Dubai]], [[Mangalore]] and flown to [[Mumbai]] on the same day. People also grow coconut, cashew and areca-nut in this region. Jasmine flower which is grown in this region has received national recognition by the agriculture department recently. The market rate for the flower is decided in the town by flower merchants on daily basis depending on the supply and demand for flowers on that particular day.
