Swati Bathwal was born in [[Ranchi]], [[Jharkhand]]. Her father Nirmal Kumar Bathwal was a scientist and her mother Neera Bathwal is a lawyer. Swati Bathwal studied [[public health]] in [[Sydney]] and received a scholarship after scoring 96 in [[Biochemistry]]. For further study in nutrition, she picked [[Griffith University]] in 2006. In 2008, she was subjected to racial discrimination and forced to leave the program.
