Ajesh was born and brought up in Chennai, Tamilnadu, India. His mother happened to find music in him at a very young age and helped him take up [[Carnatic music]] lessons. He went on to explore other forms of music later. Ajesh started singing stage concerts and TV shows at a very young age, and was very focused on pursuing music throughout. His first appearance on television was when he was 5 years old, on Sun TV's Sapthaswarangal hosted by A.V.Ramanan which aired in 1994. Since the age of 12 he was part of kids chorus for various composers such as Ilaiyaraaja, A.R.Rahman and Vidyasagar. In 2009, he was crowned the winner of the popular reality based singing competition ''[[Airtel Super Singer]],'' chosen by the public through voting and also by composer [[Yuvan Shankar Raja]].
