In the year 1988, Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for Women was started with the aim of providing quality higher education in the field of Engineering and Technology by Periyar Maniammai Educational and Charitable Trust managed by [[K.Veeramani]], leader of Dravidar Kazhagam. [[All India Council for Technical Education]] (AICTE) approved the academic programs and the college was affiliated with [[Bharathidasan University]].
