Soviet Land Nehru Award
The Soviet Land Nehru Award was an award given to works and artists from India in view of the friendly relations between India and the Soviet Union. It was presented by the Soviet Union under the auspices of the Soviet Embassy.[1][2]
HistoryEdit
The Soviet Land Nehru Award started in 1965 in memory of Jawaharlal Nehru.[3] It was awarded to the best literary works with the aim of sustaining friendly relations between the Soviet Union and India. this award was given for visual arts. The person and the work were selected by a committee constituted for the award under the auspices of the Soviet Embassy. Its first award was given to Hindi poet Sumitranandan Pant by Indira Gandhi on 15 November 1965.[3][4] Initially, in addition to a prize of ₹15000, a 2 week Russia-tour was also provided.[3]
