Sind, sometimes spelled Scinde, was a province of Pakistan from 1947 until its amalgamation into West Pakistan in 1955, and before that, a province of British India from 1936 until Pakistan's creation in 1947. Karachi served as the provincial capital until 1948, after which Hyderabad succeeded it as the administrative centre.
Under British rule, the province encompassed the current territorial limits excluding the princely state of Khairpur. In 1948, Karachi was separated from the province to establish the Federal Capital Territory and serve as Pakistan's federal capital, resulting in the provincial capital being shifted to Hyderabad. The province was eventually dissolved alongside Baluchistan, the North-West Frontier Province, West Punjab, and several Pakistani princely states to form a unified province of West Pakistan in 1955, implemented through the One Unit Scheme.
