Shama Hyder is an Indian-American entrepreneur and author. She was ranked one of LinkedIn's Top 10 Voices in Marketing for four years in a row: 2016 to 2019.[3][4][5] She was named one of the “Top 25 Entrepreneurs under 25” by Business Week in 2009 and Forbes top 30 Under 30 list for 2015.[6] In 2018, she won the Global Empowerment Award by Anokhi Media.[7][8]
Biography[edit]
Hyder was born on 25 April 1985 in Goa, India. She moved with her family to the United States in 1994 and settled in Dallas, Texas. Following graduation from R. L. Turner High School in Carrollton, she attended the University of Texas at Austin in 2003. She received her master's degree in Organizational Communication and Technology in 2008.[9]
In 2010, Hyder published her first book with BenBella Books, The Zen of Social Media Marketing: An Easier Way to Build Credibility, Generate Buzz, and Increase Revenue (ISBN 978-1511394482). Her second book, Momentum: How to Propel Your Marketing and Transform Your Brand in the Digital Age (ISBN 978-1942952060) was published by BenBella in 2016.[10][11]
Hyder is a columnist on business and marketing for Forbes and Inc.[12][13] In 2012, she hosted two weekly segments on the television station CW 33, KDAF-TV in Dallas, Texas named Tech Zen with Shama,[14] and Socially Sound with Shama.[15]
Hyder appeared in a number of national and international workshops lecturing on entrepreneurship, and on technology.[16][17]
She is married[18] to fellow entrepreneur Patrick Barnhill, the founder and co-owner of Specialist ID, Inc.[19] They have one son, Hunter.[20]
