Satte Pe Satta (lit. 'Seven on Seven') is a 1982 Indian Hindi-language action-comedy film directed by Raj N. Sippy and produced by Romu N. Sippy. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Ranjeeta Kaur and Amjad Khan in lead roles with Sudhir Luthria, Shakti Kapoor, Kanwarjit Paintal, Kalwaljit Singh and Vikram Sahu in supporting roles.
The film was adapted from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) and was remade in Marathi by Sachin Pilgaonkar as Aamhi Satpute (2008).
Plot[edit]
Satte Pe Satta is the story of seven brothers living on a large farmhouse who are unsophisticated bumpkins and lack social etiquette and hygiene as they are all orphans and uneducated. They are all named after the days of the week - Som, Mangal, Budh, Guru, Shukra, Shani and Ravi. Ravi (Amitabh Bachchan), being the eldest brother, raises his six brothers under his leadership and the youngest brother Shani (Sachin Pilgaonkar) is loved the most by him. They all live on a farm among animals. A sequence of events leads Ravi to meet a nurse named Indu (Hema Malini) and falls in love with her although she dislikes him due to his undisciplined behaviour. Therefore, Ravi fools her that he has only one brother (Shani) and becomes well-dressed in front of her, making her reciprocate his feelings. The two get married and Indu learns that Ravi has five more brothers, all uncivilized and uncouth. The brothers learn to adjust with a new girl and so does Indu who decides to civilize them all. Soon, the six brothers meet and fall in love with six sisters who reciprocate their feelings. They are friends with a paraplegic rich heiress named Seema Singh (Ranjeeta Kaur) whose uncle Ranjit Singh (Amjad Khan) has devious plans to murder her in order to gain the possession of her ancestral property. Babu, an exact doppelganger of Ravi, is a criminal who is released from jail after several months and is hired by Ranjit for murdering Seema. Meanwhile, as the brothers are missing their girlfriends, Ravi helps them "kidnap" the girls from their house along with Seema, irritating Indu. Ranjit learns about their visit to the farmhouse and asks Ravi to visit his house to take some clothes and medicines for Seema. While there, he learns about his resemblance with Babu who is asked to impersonate Ravi with the promise of one lakh rupees by Ranjit. Ravi is captured by Ranjit's henchmen and is imprisoned in a remote island. Babu undergoes a makeover and transforms himself into Ravi. He enters Ravi's house and is quickly accepted by Indu and all the brothers. Meanwhile, Ranjit decides to frame Ravi for Seema's murder. At his house, Babu secretly attempts to murder Seema with his knife but she runs away from him as she regains the control of her legs due to the shock and is able to walk again. Babu spends several days more with the family and is overcome with guilt. During the festival of Karva Chauth, he reveals his real identity and Ranjit's true intentions to everyone. The brothers forgive him as he did not take advantage of Indu. Babu promises Indu that her husband will remain alive. The next day, he takes the brothers to the island where Ranjit captures them all with Ravi. The brothers fight against Ranjit's henchmen and motivate Ravi to beat Ranjit up. Ravi manages to defeat Ranjit and is reunited with his brothers and Indu. Babu also unites with Ravi's family and marries Seema.
