Royal Bhutan Police [lower-alpha 1] is the national police force of the Kingdom of Bhutan, tasked with maintaining law and order and preventing crime throughout the country.[1] Established on 01 September 1965, it initially comprised 555 personnel who were reassigned from the Royal Bhutan Army and was originally known as the "Bhutan Frontier Guards".[2] The legal framework for the police's operations was first codified in the Royal Bhutan Police Act of 1980. This initial framework was subsequently repealed and replaced in its entirety by the Royal Bhutan Police Act of 2009.[3]
