Ramesh Yeshwant Prabhoo was an Indian politician.[1] In 1987 he was elected as a member of Maharashtra's legislative assembly as an independent candidate supported by the Shiv Sena,[2] the Shiv Sena not being a registered political party then.[3] His election was annulled by a judgement handed down from the Supreme Court of India which upheld a lower court order, for election speeches made by his agent and the chief of the Shiv Sena, Bal Thackeray that contained degrading remarks about Muslims.[4][1] Prabhoo was the Mayor of Mumbai from 1987 until 1988.[5] Prabhoo was a medical doctor and held a MBBS degree.[6]:125
