Rajalakshmy is a playback singer and made her mark in the Malayalam film music industry by winning the Kerala State Film Award for the Best Playback Singer in 2011.[1] She was nominated to the National Film Awards 2009 for the film Kuttysrank, directed by Shaji N. Karun. She has won the Kerala State Sangeetha Nataka Academy for the Best Playback Singer in 2004&2014. Also won the first Mazhavil Mango Music awards in 2017 and Flowers Music awards in 2018.[citation needed] She has also lent her voice to Tamil and Kannada movies.

Personal life[edit]

Rajalakshmy was born on 13 October, in to a musical family in Eranakulam. Her talent was recognized at a very early age by her mother Parvathy, who was a professional singer in the early 60's. Rajalakshmy completed her schooling from St. Ann's English Medium Higher Secondary School, Eloor and Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Eranakulam. She attained a bachelor's degree in English literature from St. Teresa's College, Eranakulam.

She married Abhiram Krishnan on 24 November 2004. They have a son, Aaryan.

Professional career[edit]

Rajalakshmy began her career at the young age of nine. She appeared as a child artist in hundreds of ganamela stages of Tansen Music, Cochin Kalabhavan, Cochin Melodies, C.A.C. etc. She did more than 1000 musical albums, worked with renowned music directors like K. Raghavan, Raveendran, Johnson, Jerry Amaldev, Syam, Ouseppachan, Mohan Sitara Jaya (Vijaya), Vidyasagar, Sharett, M. Jayachandran, Jassie Gift, Bijibal, Deepak Dev, Gopi sundar , Afsal Yusaf, Stephan Devassy, and Rony Raphel. It was Doordarshan's Hamsadwany, the first music competition in Malayalam television, which made Rajalakshmy more popular among the viewers. Rajalakshmy was introduced to the film industry by Jassie Gift in the film Aswaroodan directed by Jayaraj. But a break was given by M.Jayachandran in the film Orkuka Vallapozhum. She has traveled all over in Gulf countries, the United States, Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom, and shared stages with famous playback singers like Padmabhooshan, Dr. K.J. Yesudas, P. Jayachandran, S.P.B, Unnimenon, M.G. Sreekumar, Hariharan, Udit Narayan, Mano, G. Venugopal, Sreenivas, M.Jayachandran, Jassie Gift, S. Janaki, P. Suseela, Vanijayaram, K.S. Chitra, and Sujatha.
