Prince Bijey Singh Memorial Hospital, commonly known as PBM Hospital, is a government hospital in Bikaner, Rajasthan, India. It is administered by the Government of Rajasthan and forms part of the Sardar Patel Medical College and Associated Group of Hospitals. The hospital was formed in the memory of Prince Bijey Singh, son of Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner.[1] Its associated cancer institute documents a history of radiation treatment in Bikaner dating to before the 1940s, with a telecobalt-60 machine commissioned in 1965.[2]
History[edit | edit source]
PBM Hospital is named after Prince Bijay Singh and is associated with the patronage of Maharaja Ganga Singh, the former ruler of Bikaner.
The hospital is associated with Sardar Patel Medical College, which was established in 1959. The college and its associated hospitals provide clinical facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
The Acharya Tulsi Regional Cancer Institute and Research Centre is part of the medical infrastructure associated with PBM.
According to the institute's published history, radiation treatment for cancer patients was available in Bikaner before 1940. A telecobalt-60 machine was commissioned in 1965. The institute subsequently developed additional radiotherapy facilities, including high-dose-rate brachytherapy.[2]
