Prabhunath Singh is a politician from Bihar, India. He was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha. Singh represented the Mashrakh (Vidhan sabha ) 4 times Lok Sabah Member 1998, 1999, 2004, 2013 and Maharajganj constituency of Bihar from 2004 to 2009. Singh is a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

Background family and education[edit]

Singh was born in Masrakh, Saran district, in Bihar. He studied till class-12 from Bihar University, Muzaffarpur in 1972.[1] He married Binda Devi. His brother Dina Singh, Madan Singh and Kedar Singh are also politician.[2] His son Randhir Kumar Singh is also politician and lost 2019 Indian general election to Janardan Singh Sigriwal of BJP.[3]

In 1985, a cement businessman enters the same area, who tapped as an independent candidate from Mashark seat in the Saran district. He was accused of killing his father Ramdev Singh against Harendra Singh. Actually, we are talking about the once domineering and Bahubali leader Prabhunath Singh, about whom it was said that he knows not to bow down. It was the influence of Prabhunath Singh that despite contesting as an independent candidate, even the sons of influential person Ramdev Singh of the district.

The year 1995 was when the politics of forward and backward politics started after the Mandal Commission in Bihar. Forward and backward castes were engaged in suppressing each other, but in this battle of supremacy, the backward castes conquered the forward castes and the result was that the Masarak seat where Prabhunath Singh was winning the election by defeating Taal. , In the same seat, the Janata Dal chose Ashok Singh against him and Ashok Singh defeated his biggest enemy Prabhunath Singh, not disappointing the party.

For Prabhunath Singh, the years 1994 and 1995 proved to be the turning points of his political career. At that time, Lalu Prasad Yadav (Chief Minister of the state) used to be the Chief Minister on behalf of Janata Dal. But the rest of the Janata Dal leaders accused Lalu Prasad Yadav of increasing casteism and formed a separate party in the name of Samata Party.

In this way, the year 1995 proved to be the turning point in the life of Prabhunath Singh. Prabhunath Singh was famous in the streets of Saran, he liked to die and fade away, but to be called a former MLA.

In 1996, when there was another big earthquake in the politics of Bihar. BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi (Sushil Modi), who was making a mark in politics at the time, opened the front by accusing him of Fodder Scam against Lalu Yadav. See the result of this, one year after the revelation, CM Lalu Yadav had to resign from his post and replaced with Chief Minister Rabri Devi. At the same time, during all these incidents, Prabhunath Singh was climbing the stairs of success. First the Janata Dal, then the Bihar People's Party, and now again a step in the politics of forward-backward

By 2000, Prabhunath Singh became known as a stalwart leader of Bihar and, taking advantage of his stature, merged the Samata Party and JDU trio and then came back to Parliament, winning the 2004 election in an impressive manner. . Taking advantage of the influence of politics, he was acquitted in the Ashok Singh massacre. At the same time, when Prabhunath Singh's image was not just the leader of the state but as a national leader.

Shortly after the 22-year-old case, in the murder of MLA Ashok Singh, Prabhunath Singh was sentenced to life imprisonment for his brothers, due to which he was declared a commission to contest the election of MP. Since then, Prabhunath Singh has been counting the nights in the jail of Jharkhand. There are 40 serious cases against Prabhunath Singh, but so far he has been convicted in only one case.

Career[edit]

Before entering in politics he has a brick-making factory and has won his first election as MLA as an independent candidate, due to his support among local Rajput[4][5] of his area.[6] He is 4 times member of parliament from Saran district and due to his muscle power.[7] He has also polled election from Bharatiya Janata Party in 1995, but lost so next year he left the party.[8] Then he also elected from JDU, but then later joined RJD and said that he left JDU due to dictatorship of Nitish Kumar.[9] He represented the Maharajganj constituency of Bihar from 2004 to 2009 on JD(U) ticket. In 2009, he contested on JD(U) ticket, but lost Uma Shankar Singh of Rashtriya Janata Dal narrowly. After the death of Uma Shankar Singh, seat went vacant. He switched the side and contested on RJD ticket. This time he defeated the JD(U)'s nominee P.K. Shahi.

Conviction and controversies[edit]

On 23 May 2017 he was sentenced to life imprisonment by Hazaribagh Court in connection and abetting murder of MLA Ashok Singh back 22 years ago.[10][11] There are many criminal charges against him[12] and once Lalu Prasad Yadav also called him a "goonda".[6]
