The Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations is the formal title of the Indian delegation to the United Nations (UN).[1] India was among the founding members of the United Nations and signed the Declaration by United Nations on 1 January 1942. India also participated in the United Nations Conference on International Organization and Diwan Bahadur Sir Arcot Ramasamy Mudaliar signed the United Nations Charter on India's behalf.[2]

Leadership[edit]

The Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations is the leader of the Indian Mission to the United Nations. He also represents India in the Security Council of the United Nations.[3] The current Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations is Ambassador T. S. Tirumurti.[4]

In 2021, when India became a non-permanent member of United Nations Security Council, Government of India added four more officers to its permanent mission in New York to boost its diplomatic presence. One officer was appointed as an Additional deputy permanent representative and another one being with the designation of Counsellor.[5]

Currently, India's Permanent Mission has one Deputy Permanent Representative[6], a Minister, four Counsellors, seven First Secretaries, five Second Secretaries and a Military Advisor.[7]
