Reception[edit]
IndiaGlitz, in their review, gave 'Peddha Kapu 1' 3 out of 5 stars. They state that the movie is set in the 1980s and revolves around caste-based conflicts in a small village. Virat Karna plays the role of Peddha Kapu, a member of an oppressed community, who takes on the dominant landlords when NTR announces a political party, leading to caste-based conflicts. The film starts strong with intense sequences and an exhilarating interval scene. Rao Ramesh delivers an outstanding performance, and Anasuya shines in her role. However, the film's second half dips in narration but still manages to hold attention with its gritty storyline and intense drama.[3]
Venkat Arikatla, reviewing for GreatAndhra, gave it 3 out of 5 stars. Directed by Srikanth Addala, the film attempts to delve into the complexities of caste politics in the 1980s but falls short of providing a clear narrative. The film introduces numerous characters, leading to a confusing first half. While the performances are commendable, especially Virat Karrna in his debut, the script lacks clarity. The film only starts making sense in the second half when it focuses on a suppressed community's rise to power. However, the execution remains lacking, making it a disappointing attempt in the political drama genre.[4]
Cinejosh reviewed Peddha Kapu 1 and gave it 2 out of 5 stars. In their review, features director Srikanth Addala, marking a departure from the director's usual genre of family and romantic entertainers, taking on a more intense narrative. The film revolves around the conflicts between two villages on a small island and is fueled by influential leaders manipulating emotions for political gain. While the performances of the cast, especially Virat Karnna and Bridiga Saga, are commendable, the film's script falls into a repetitive and monotonous pattern, lacking significant twists and emotional depth. Despite some impactful dialogues, the film struggles to maintain the desired intensity, making it a one-dimensional political narrative.[5]
Sangeetha Devi Dundoo's review of Peddha Kapu 1 for The Hindu gives it 1 out of 5 stars. Director Srikanth Addala's 'Peddha Kapu 1' attempts to depict the rise of a common man amidst class, caste, and power struggles but falls flat. While there are moments that show promise, the film ultimately becomes tedious and voyeuristic in its portrayal of violence, losing sight of character development. The excessive brutality and repulsive sexual violence detract from the potential of the story, leaving viewers disengaged. Despite some notable performances, the film's shortcomings make it a difficult watch, especially considering its intention to explore important social issues..[6]
