nexGTv is an Indian OTT and IPTV application operated by Digivive Services Pvt. Ltd. Launched in 2010, it is one of the earliest mobile streaming platforms in India,[1] which now provides Free-to-air live television channels, video-on-demand content, and regional programming.[2] The platform reached its peak popularity between 2013 and 2014 when it held the mobile streaming rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL),[3][4] prior to the mainstream emergence of competing platforms like Hotstar and Netflix.[3]

It won the digital experience award and was listed in the top ten paid applications in its category at World Communication Awards in 2014.[5] It is available on the playstore,[6] appstore,[7] fireTV[8] and android TV[9] apart from the web.[10]
Its parent company, Digivive, also transitioned into a business-to-business (B2B) model, providing white-label streaming technology and Managed Value Added Services (MVAS) to telecommunications providers.[11][12]

Launch and early growth[edit | edit source]
nexGTv was launched in 2010 by Digivive, a subsidiary of Media Matrix Worldwide Limited, based in Gurugram.[10][1][2] In its early years, the platform focused on optimizing live television delivery over India's 2G and 3G cellular networks, which were characterised by low bandwidth capabilities and high data costs.[13]
The application gained significant traction in 2013 and 2014 after securing the official digital mobile streaming rights for the Indian Premier League cricket tournament.[14][15] By broadcasting live cricket matches directly to mobile users, nexGTv became one of the most downloaded entertainment applications in the country, reportedly surpassing 17 million total downloads by 2015.[3][4]
In January 2016, nexGTv collaborated with actress Priyanka Chopra and digital agency Fluence to launch It's My City, a 14-part original mobile sitcom focused on four young women living in Mumbai.[16][17]
Later that year, the service partnered with SelectNext Digital to expand its library of regional language content, including Bengali, Marathi, and Tamil programming.[18]

The platform's market dominance declined rapidly after 2014. Star India acquired the digital streaming rights for the IPL and subsequently launched its own streaming platform, Hotstar, which transferred the core digital cricket audience away from nexGTv.[19]
Following the entry of Reliance Jio in 2016, which significantly reduced the cost of 4G mobile data in India, the OTT market became highly competitive. Heavily funded international platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video expanded their Indian operations, while telecom operators launched their own free, bundled live television applications,[20] including JioTV and Airtel Xstream. Unable to compete with the high production budgets required for premium original series or exclusive sports broadcasting, nexGTv's active user base diminished.[21]
Current operations[edit | edit source]
Unlike other early Indian streaming platforms that ceased operations, nexGTv remained active via its apps by pivoting its content strategy. The platform shifted its focus away from premium sports, repositioning itself to cater to free users. Today, nexGTv primarily aggregates free-to-air news channels, devotional channels, and regional language entertainment.[2]
The service offers its television content free of charge and without advertisements. However, It also advertises a subscription costing ₹35 per week or ₹125 per month, which purportedly enables simultaneous streaming on two devices and content downloads. As of August 2026, Ankur Tuteja is its.grievance officer.[22]
