Template:Eric Adams series The mayoral election for New York City is set to take place on 04 November 2025. The candidates include Democratic state assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, Republican activist Curtis Sliwa, and independent former governor Andrew Cuomo. The winner will take over from the current Democratic mayor, Eric Adams.
Adams initially aimed for a second term, first as a Democrat and later switching to run as an independent, but he decided to withdraw from the race in September 2025. Cuomo, who is attempting a political comeback after resigning as governor in 2021, was seen as the leading candidate for the Democratic nomination. However, in a surprising turn of events, Mamdani won the 2025 New York City Democratic mayoral primary against Cuomo. After this defeat, Cuomo opted to continue his campaign as an independent. Sliwa, who was the Republican nominee in the 2021 New York City mayoral election, ran unchallenged for his party's nomination.
