History[edit]

Nims Group was founded in 2001 by Prof. (Dr.) Balvir S. Tomar, an alumnus of Harvard University and King's College London.[citation needed] The National Institute of Medical Sciences was founded as a venture of the Nims Group in 2002.[citation needed] Nims Group began additional ventures, including Nims Medical College, Nims Dental College, Nims Nursing College, Nims College of Pharmacy, Nims Institute of Management, Nims Engineering College, Nims Institute of Law, Nims International School, national news channel News India, and Nims-Fluxlite LED Manufacturing Plant.[citation needed]

The various Nims Group schools were reorganized as Nims University under the Nims University Rajasthan, Jaipur Act, 2008, enacted by the Government of Rajasthan and recognized by the UGC.[expand acronym] The university is recognized by MCI, DCI, PCI, INC, BCI, and COA.[expand acronym][citation needed]

In 2014, satellite channel News India was founded under Nims Group to provide current affairs information to the student body.[citation needed]

Nims university attracts students from across India and internationally (e.g., Nigeria, South and North Sudan, Libya, Yamen, Iran, Iraq, Eretria, Djibouti, Congo, Somalia, Benin, Syria, Nepal, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique).[citation needed]

Nims University won the Best Self-Financed University Award 2013 and CCI Technology Education Excellence Award 2014.[citation needed] Nims University was recognized as the best skill-development institute by the Government of India and ASSOCHAM.[expand acronym][citation needed] Nims University has received awards for Best Skill Development for two consecutive years, in 2015 and 2016.[citation needed] In 2017, Nims University was again awarded as Best Private University jointly by the Centre Education Growth and Research (CEGR).[citation needed]

Clinics[edit]

Nims University's student medical clinics draw patients from a 250-kilometre radius (160 mi) of the university, providing free health care and treatment, and in certain cases free lodging, food and transportation.[citation needed] For efficiency, medical camps have been held in some villages.[citation needed]

NIMS Hospital, a super-specialty tertiary-care hospital, has sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic facilities to provide treatment.[citation needed] The hospital's outpatient department attracts more than a thousand patients daily. Nims Hospital has been developed as a Nims super-specialty hospital with modern facilities for liver and kidney transplants, angiography, angioplasty, bypass surgery, valve-replacement surgery, laparoscopic stone removal, prostate surgery, dialysis, kidney transplant, knee/hip replacement, spinal surgery, neurosurgery, cornea transplant, lens replacement, infertility treatment, and in vitro fertilisation (IVF).[citation needed]

Six new super-specialty departments – Cardiology, Urology, Nephrology, IVF, NeuroSciences and Ophthalmology – have been added, with advanced facilities. The highlight of this super-specialty hospital is providing advanced tertiary-level treatment at a very low cost, lower than that of government hospitals.[citation needed][clarification needed]

The first successful liver transplant in Rajasthan was recently[when?] performed in the Nims Super-specialty Hospital.[citation needed]
