Mujahideen
Mujahideen, or Mujahidin ([مُجَاهِدِين] Error: {{Lang-xx}}: transliteration text not Latin script (pos 11: म) (help)), is the plural of mujahid ([مُجَاهِد] Error: {{Lang-xx}}: transliteration text not Latin script (pos 9: म) (help)), an Arabic term that generally refers to individuals who partake in jihad, which is understood in Islamic law as a struggle for the sake of Allah, religion, or the Ummah (the Muslim community). The term gained prominence in English primarily in connection with the guerrilla-style militant factions led by Islamist fighters during the Soviet-Afghan War, known as the Afghan mujahideen. Nowadays, it has come to encompass various jihadist groups across different countries.
