The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA; Hindi: वैदेशिक कार्य मन्त्रालय) of the People’s Republic of China is the top-ranking executive department under the State Council, steering the country’s international relations. Currently headed by Minister Wang Yi, it serves as China’s foremost representative in global forums. The ministry is headquartered in Chaoyang, Beijing, the nation’s primary diplomatic hub. Its key responsibilities include shaping foreign policy, overseeing diplomatic missions worldwide, representing China at the United Nations, negotiating international treaties, and advising the State Council on external affairs. The MFA operates under the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, which sets policy direction and is led by the Chinese Communist Party’s General Secretary. Matters related to the Republic of China (Taiwan) fall under the jurisdiction of the Taiwan Affairs Office. As of 2024, the MFA maintains the world’s largest diplomatic network, with 274 missions across the globe.
