Michel Margaret Castanha (born 23 December 1992)[1] is an Indian women's professional footballer from Goa. She plays as a defender for Gokulam Kerala FC in the Indian Women's League and represents the India women's national football team.

Early life[edit]

Goa's Michel Castanha is from Curtorim and began her career at the age of eight playing for a Bodyline Club from Maharashtra. Her father, a former football player, reluctantly agreed to her taking up the game when coach Maria Rebelo convinced him.

Football career[edit]

Michel Castanha made her debut in the Under-17 Nationals at the age of 12 in Chandigarh in 2005. Then, there were only two junior age group Nationals, U-17 and U-19 before the Senior cap.

She represented India at the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers 2018 in South Korea.

She joined the Pune City team in I-League.

At the Vedanta Women's Football League 2017, Michel was selected for the Panjim Dolphins team.he was part of the Indian team which withdrew from the 2022 AFC Asian Cup[2] as 12 players contracted COVID 9.

July 2023: She was selected for the Senior India camp to be held at Bhubaneshwar from July 30 for the AFC Olympic Qualifiers[3] Round II to be held at Tashkent from October 26 to November 1.
