Mathur is a subcaste of the Kayastha and Jat community in Northern India,[1] with their origins possibly in Mathura.[2]
This surname is also found amongst the Kshtriya Jat community.
Mathur in South India[edit]
Sizeable Mathur community is also found in South India, mostly in Hyderabad.[3][4] They mostly migrated from North India to find placement in administration under Medieval Indian rulers.[5]
