Marseille

Marseille (in French: Marseille; in Provençal Occitan: Marselha) is a city located in the southern part of France. It serves as the prefecture for the Bouches-du-Rhône department and is part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Positioned along the Mediterranean coast, it lies near the Rhône river's mouth. As of 2021, Marseille is the second-largest city in France by population, following Paris, with a total of 873,076 residents. Including its surrounding suburbs and exurbs, Marseille forms the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, which had a population of 1,911,311 according to the 2021 census.
