Leshi Singh is an Indian Politician from JDU and senior member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from the Dhamdaha seat in Bihar.

Political Career[edit]

She is a Minister in Nitish Kumar cabinet.[1] Previously, Leshi was the Chairman of Bihar State Women Commission. In the year 2000, 2005 (Feb.), 2010, 2015, 2020 Bihar Assembly Elections, Leshi Singh won the Dhamdaha constituency of Bihar to become a Member of Legislative Assembly. She is the 5th term MLA from Dhamdaha (Purnia), winning by huge margin of approx. 34k votes.

Currently, she is the Food and Consumer Protection Minister in Government of Bihar.[2][3] Leshi is considered one of the most senior leaders of the Janata Dal (United).

In the year 2000 she won the Bihar state assembly election for the time by 14739 votes from Dhamdaha Vidhan Sabha of Purnia district from Samata Party in the leadership of George Fernandes and Nitish Kumar.

In the year 2005 she won again by 9303 votes from JDU (Janata Dal United) led by Nitish Kumar from Dhamdaha Vidhan Sabha.

In November 2005 in middle-term election she lost election by a very small margin of votes.

In 2006 she became State President of Mahila JDU (Janata Dal United).

On 2nd November 2007 she became President of Bihar state women commission.

In 2010 she won 2010 Bihar assembly election by record margin of 45000 votes from Dhamdaha Vidhan Sabha from JDU led by Nitish Kumar.

In 2014 she became social welfare and disaster management minister of Bihar.

She again won 2015 Bihar assembly election from Dhamdaha by 30291 votes.

In 2020 Bihar state election she won for the fifth time from Dhamdaha by 33594 votes and became 5th timer MLA from Dhamdaha, Purnia.

Personal life[edit]

She is the wife of Butan Singh, former district chief of Samata Party and highly-dreaded ganglord.[4]
