Las Bela (Urdu: لسبیلہ‎; Hindi: लासबेला) was a princely state that maintained a subsidiary alliance with British India and later became a part of newly created Pakistan, existing until 1955. It covered an area of 18,254 square kilometers in the far southeast of the Balochistan region, boasting a lengthy coastline along the Arabian Sea to the south. The state was bordered to the north and west by the princely states of Kalat and Makran, while the province of Sind was situated to the east, and the Federal Capital Territory surrounding Karachi lay to the southeast.

History[edit]

The State of Las Bela was established in 1742 by Jam Ali Khan I, a member of the Rajput Jamote clan. The ruling lineage continued through his descendants until 1955, when Las Bela was incorporated into West Pakistan. Ghulam Qadir Khan, the last Jam of Las Bela, made a notable statement upon signing the accession, reflecting the historical significance and the transition of the princely state into the newly formed political landscape of Pakistan.

We hold historical ties with Sindh and share strongest cultural bond with the Province. Our People have accepted Jinnah Sahab as the leader of new Muslim homeland and we vote to emerge in Pakistan.

From 3 October 1952 to 14 October 1955, Las Bela was integrated into the Baluchistan States Union while maintaining its internal autonomy. In 1955, it was fully incorporated into the newly established province of West Pakistan and became part of the Kalat division. Subsequently, in 1960, the area of Las Bela was separated from the Kalat division and merged with the former Federal Capital Territory to create the Karachi-Bela division. Following a restructuring of the provincial system in 1970, Las Bela became part of the newly formed province of Balochistan.
