Kanakesa Thevar, a member of the Gandhian Movement, lived in the village of Mahilankottai. He was the first and longest serving Panchayat president there. He was also a freedom fighter, a reformist and a landlord. He was a very good friend of R. Venkataraman (former President of India), Freedom Fighter Samuel Pillai (First Pattukkottai Union Chairman), K. Kamaraj (then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu), and M. Bakthavatsalam (also Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu). He was a visionary and built the first modern bus stand for Pattukkottai.
He is survived by three sons K. Arumuga Thevar, K. Balakrishan Thevar, K. Vivekanandan Thevar, and two daughters.
