Iraivan is an upcoming Tamil-language thriller drama film written and directed by I. Ahmed. It is produced by Sudhan Sundaram and G. Jayaram under Passion Studios. The film stars Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara in the lead role. The music and background score is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The cinematography and editing are handled by Hari K Vedanth and Manikanda Balaji, respectively.[1]

In May 2021, actor Jayam Ravi and director I. Ahmed were reported to do a movie together, doing so after Jana Gana Mana, which had it shooting on hold due to COVID-19 pandemic and was not resumed.[2] Nayanthara was reported to play the lead female role alongside Ravi after Thani Oruvan (2015),[3] with she also receiving a remuneration of ₹10 crore for 20-days call sheet.[4] Harris Jayaraj was reported to compose the soundtrack for the film, collaborating with Ahmed after Endrendrum Punnagai (2013), until they finalized Yuvan Shankar Raja as the soundtrack composer.[5] On 30 March 2022, coinciding Ahmed's birthday, Ravi and Ahmed, via twitter, confirmed doing a film together.[6] The title Iraivan was revealed on Ravi's birthday (10 September).[7]

Filming[edit]

Principal photography began in March 2022 with the first schedule in Chennai.[8] Nayanthara wrapped up shooting her portions by 14 August,[9] while the whole shooting wrapped up by 1 November.[10]

Post-production[edit]

The film's first look poster was released on 16 January 2023, coinciding Pongal.[11]

Music[edit]

The film's music and background score is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja in his second collaboration with Ahmed after Vaamanan (2009) and fifth with Ravi after Daas (2005), Deepavali (2007), Thillalangadi (2010) and Aadhi Baghavan (2013).[12] Times Music purchased the music rights for the film.

Theatrical[edit]

Iraivan is scheduled for a theatrical release on 25 August 2023. Apart from Tamil, it is also releasing on Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.[13]

Home media[edit]

The streaming platform, Netflix, acquired the digital rights for the film, while the satellite rights are yet-to-be revealed.[14]
