India participated and hosted the 1951 Asian Games held in the capital city , New Delhi from 4 to 11 March 1951. India was ranked second with 15 gold medals in this edition of the Asiad.[1]
Sachin Nag's gold medal in the men's 100m freestyle swimming was the first ever gold for India at the Asian Games, and remains their only gold medal in Asian Games swimming events as of the conclusion of the 2022 Asian Games.
The India national football team won the gold medal in the men's football competition.
