The edit toolbar (also known as the 2010 wikitext editor toolbar or VisualEditor toolbar) is an interactive formatting interface located directly above the editing window on Bharatpedia. It provides quick-access buttons for applying wikitext markup, inserting links, adding references, and structuring tables without needing to type raw code manually.
Overview[edit source]
The edit toolbar is designed to help both beginner and experienced editors format pages quickly and accurately. Depending on your user preferences and whether you are using the source editor or the visual editor, the toolbar adapts to provide relevant formatting controls.
Toolbar Sections and Tools[edit source]
The standard source editor toolbar is divided into several logical groups:
1. Text Formatting (Advanced Style)[edit source]
Quick buttons to wrap selected text in standard wikitext markup:
- Bold (
): Makes selected text bold (equivalent to typing'''bold'''). - Italic (
): Makes selected text italic (equivalent to typing''italic''). - Link (
[[ ]]): Opens a dialog box to insert internal wikilinks to other Bharatpedia articles or external URLs. - Reference (
<ref>): Inserts inline citation tags for adding sources and footnotes.
2. Structure and Layout[edit source]
Tools for organizing page content and readability:
- Heading: Dropdown menu to select heading levels (Level 2
== Heading ==through Level 4==== Heading ====). Note that Level 1=is reserved for page titles. - Bullet List: Creates itemized bullet points (

:).
3. Advanced Inserts[edit source]

- File / Media: Inserts images, icons, or media files from Wikimedia Commons / local upload repository.
- Special Characters: Inserts special Unicode symbols, diacritics, and mathematical characters (e.g., macron symbols, Devanagari characters, Greek letters).
