Hareem Farooq (Urdu: حریم فاروق हरीम फ़ारूक़ (IAST: हरीम फ़ारूक़)

; Hindi: हरीम फ़ारूक ; born 26 May 1989) is a prominent Pakistani actress and film producer, known for her work in theatre, film, and television. She began her artistic journey in theatre, portraying the lead role of Fatima Jinnah in Pawnay 14 August and Kiran in Aangan Terha. Her film debut came in 2013 with the horror thriller Siyaah, which earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the Lux Style Awards.

In addition to her film career, Hareem made a mark on television with the romantic serial Mausam in 2014, which garnered her the Hum Award for Best Television Sensation Female. She followed this success with notable series such as Mere Humdum Mere Dost (2014), Dusri Biwi (2014), and Diyar-e-Dil (2015). In 2016, she co-produced and starred in the romantic film Janaan, later appearing in comedies like Parchi (2018) and Heer Maan Ja (2019). Notably, she became the first female celebrity to host the Pakistan Super League in 2018.

Early Life[edit]

Hareem was born in Islamabad and spent her early years there before relocating to Karachi with her family. Coming from a family of doctors—her father holds a PhD in public health and works as an international consultant, while her mother is a dermatologist—Hareem received her initial education at Karachi Grammar School. She then pursued a bachelor's degree in Sociology and Journalism from Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad before embarking on her acting career. She is also related to singer Abdullah Qureshi, who is her cousin.

Career[edit]

Hareem's career took off in 2012 when she performed in theatre, taking on significant roles such as Fatima Jinnah in Pawnay 14 August and Jahan Ara Begum in Aangan Terha, originally played by Bushra Ansari.[1] The following year marked her entry into films with a leading role in Siyaah. In 2014, she made her television debut in Mausam, sharing the screen with Ahsan Khan and Yumna Zaidi. Her performances in Dusri Biwi and Mere Humdum Mere Dost brought her some recognition, but it was her portrayal of a devoted family member in the ensemble drama Diyar-e-Dil that became a turning point in her career. [2]

Additionally, she starred in Sanam, where she played a character grappling with bipolar disorder alongside Osman Khalid Butt and Maya Ali. That same year, she featured in the film Dobara Phir Se and co-produced the feature film Janaan, where she also made a cameo appearance. In the comedy Parchi, she portrayed a female don, sharing the screen with Ali Rehman Khan, Ahmed Ali Akbar, and Usman Mukhtar.[3]

In 2015, Hareem expanded her horizons into production, partnering with her childhood best friend and producer of her debut film, Imran Raza Kazmi, to establish IRK Films. Together, they produced Janaan and the 2018 hit Parchi.[4] In the same year, she co-founded a global entertainment company, IHA Entertainment, with Arif Lakhani and Imran Raza Kazmi, which soon became the first distribution firm to enter into an agreement with top entertainment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.[5]

Hareem also made history in February 2018 by becoming the first female celebrity to host the opening ceremony of the Pakistan Super League in Dubai.[6] Furthermore, in 2017, she signed on as the official spokesperson for L'Oréal Professional in Pakistan.[7]
