Hardeep Singh Sahota (born 1 October 1983) is the General Manager of Royal Academy of Bhangra[1] and the First Certified Bhangra Instructor in Canada under the CTDA (Canadian Dance Teachers Association).[2]
Early life[edit | edit source]
Sahota was born and brought up in Patiala, Punjab, India into a Sikh family. He spent his early life in India and later moved to Canada where he started his career as a Bhangra instructor. Through this institution, he has raised the bar for bhangra institutes, bringing a professional and strategic structure to teaching and showcasing Punjabi Folk Bhangra, not only in Surrey BC, but on a provincial, national and across world. He has participated, judged, coached and produced Bhangra events and festivals around the world and has worked with International Bhangra Celebration as a performer, choreographer and artistic director.[3]
Career[edit | edit source]
He started his career at very young age. He performed as as resident artist for North Zone Culture Center from 1992 to 2003 and also took art in school competitions. Sahota also performed in various music videos such as Suhe Bullan de Naal by Shary Mann and Teri Much by Sukhdeep Brar. He is currently working in a Punjabi film Honsla Rakh. Sahota is a Certified Bhangra Instructor and Certified with World Dance council. To pass on this art he has created a syllabus on bhangra that is being taught to the children of 5 – 16 years of age group.[4]
