The General secretary of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP; Chinese: 中国共产党中央委员会总书记; pinyin: Zhōngguó Gòngchǎndǎng Zhōngyāng Wěiyuánhuì Zǒngshūjì) serves as the head of the CCP, which is the only ruling party in the People's Republic of China (PRC). Since 1989, the role of CCP general secretary has been recognized as that of the paramount leader of the PRC.
