Gaurav Taneja popularly known as Flying Beast is an Indian Youtuber, commercial pilot and nutritionist. He is known for producing YouTube videos on gaming and his daily life vlogs. He came into the limelight when he raised the issue regarding the safety of pilots in Air Asia after which he was sacked from his job.[1][2][3] He and his wife also participated in the reality TV show Smart Jodi on Star Plus.

Early life[edit]

Taneja was born on 9 July 1986 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India.[4][5] He completed his early schooling at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. After that, he enrolled himself at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, West Bengal in 2008 from where he completed his graduate course in Electrical engineering.[6] Since childhood, he was inclined towards health and nutrition. During his college days, he was known for his bodybuilding where he decided to pursue his career in the same field by providing tips to others through his YouTube channel.[7] He is married to Ritu Rathee who is also a commercial pilot and the couple have two daughters.[8][9]

Career[edit]

In 2011, he joined Atlético Madrid, Madrid, Spain (Flight School) for training in A320 type rating. After completing training, he started working as a first officer at IndiGo. In 2014, he worked as a captain in Indigo. In 2019, he joined Air Asia airlines as a pilot. Gaurav started his career as a Youtuber who used to upload his bodybuilding tips and nutrition videos. He owns three Youtube channels which are "Flying Beast", "Fit Muscle TV" and "Rasbhari Ke Papa". He along with his wife participated in the reality TV show Smart Jodi on Star Plus where they are seen engaging in the fun tasks as a couple. Due to the pertaining knee injury of his wife, the couple had to back out of the competition.[10]

Controversies[edit]

In 2020, Taneja posted a video on his YouTube channel in which he alleged that AirAsia India is neglecting the safety measures they have to take for the safety of their pilots, passengers, and aircraft. After his statement, "Air Asia" airlines sacked him from his job and rejected all his allegations.[11]

In July 2022, his wife booked an entire coach in the Noida Sector 51 metro station to celebrate his birthday. After booking the coach, She invited his subscribers and fans to celebrate his birthday and also have a meet and greet session with him. She also informed his subscribers that due to guidelines by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation they will have to restrict the number of people in the metro coach. However, she again posted an Instagram story and informed his subscribers that she had to cancel the celebration citing personal reasons. His fans arrived in huge numbers at the metro station and it became difficult for the metro authorities to handle the traffic jams and the crowd. Eventually, he got arrested by the Sector 49 police station on charges of creating chaos in the city and for violating section 144.[12] He was granted bail a day after his arrest.
