Ganak

Ganak Assamese: গণক) is a title given to the people of Assam,India who were expert in astrological calculations and the worshippers of the nine grahas(planets). It was a work based title and was composed of different non-Aryan and tribal groups. Later on it consolidated into a caste and started to claim the status of Brahmin over the time. Surnames of Ganaks are - Sarma, Hatikakoti, Changkakoti,Majinder Baruah
