DescriptionChakulia panda singing at a residential area in Puri, Odisha, India..ogg
English: Chakulia panda is a sect of monk-like people residing in undivided district of Puri (Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh districts), Odisha. They move form house to house during their alms rounds (Chaka) reciting Pada (Verse) from early Odia literature on occasions like full moon day, new moon day, Sankaranti, etc. They essentially carry a bowl (sometimes a handbag in addition) along with a Chatiri (a palm leaf umbrella) with them. People offer them rice and vegetables. They never ask for anything, rather the food is freely offered by people and they simply accept it. Food is dropped into their bowls which is mixed together according to their rules.
