In 1783, Sikh forces operating in the Upper Doab attacked and plundered villages near Jalalabad. The local inhabitants resisted the Sikh forces, and Nahar Singh Gujar, the Gujar chief of the Upper Doab, opposed them.

The Sikh forces under Baghel Singh engaged the forces led by Nahar Singh Gujar near Jalalabad. The battle resulted in a Sikh victory.

The engagement was part of the wider military activity of Sikh sardars in the Upper Doab during the 1780s.
