Capture of Pune was fought between Ahmadnagar Sultanate and Bijapur Sultanate.

Battle[edit | edit source]

In 1620, Poona was administered on behalf of the Bijapur Sultanate by a local officer named Rayrao, who governed from the fort of Bhuleshwar (also known as Daulatmangal). Following the breakdown of relations between the Adil Shah of Bijapur and the Nizam Shah of Ahmadnagar, Rayrao began extracting heavy contributions from the local population. To curb his actions, Malik Ambar dispatched Shahaji to expel him from the district. After successfully carrying out this task, Shahaji was granted the mokasa, or supervisory authority, over the parganas of Poona and Shirwal by the Nizam Shah. This episode further aggravated hostilities between the two kingdoms.[1][2]
