Bismita Gogoi (born 1 January 1972) is an Indian politician from the state of Assam. She was a Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Indian National Congress for Khumtai. She was made Minister of Cultural Affairs, Handloom, Textile, Sericulture and Backward Classes Welfare during a cabinet reshuffle[1]
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Bismita Gogoi was born on 1 January 1972 to the late Tokheswar Saikia and Ahalya Saikia. She was born in Moran.[2] She is M.A in Sociology (1996) from Dibrugarh University. She has also completed LLB from RKB Law College under Dibrugarh University in the year 1999.[3]
Personal life[edit | edit source]
She married Rupak Kr Gogoi on 12 December 1997. Her husband was the son of Jiba Kanta Gogoi, a former speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.[4] They had no children. Her husband was killed after he was attacked by a mob of labourers.[5]
Political career[edit | edit source]
She was elected to the assembly in 2011. She became Minister of Cultural Affairs, Handloom, Textile, Sericulture and Backward Classes Welfare succeeding Pranati Phukan.[6] She was one of 10 cabinet ministers who lost in the 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly Election.[7]
