"Contributions" linkage to the top header[edit source]

Hello everyone, I would like to propose a small but highly impactful interface enhancement for Bharatpedia.
Current Situation[edit source]
As shown in the screenshot above, the top header currently displays links for "Discuss," donation, appearance, and language. However, there is no quick access to view a user's contributions directly from the header. Users currently have to navigate through their personal user menu to find this link, which adds unnecessary steps to common task.
Proposed Change[edit source]
I propose adding a dynamic "Contributions" icon directly in the top header bar, positioned next to the "Discuss" icon.
To match standard MediaWiki behavior and improve editor workflow, this link should be 'context-aware':
- On regular pages (Articles, Main Page, etc.): The link should point to
Special:MyContributions(showing the current user's own edit history). - On another user's User page or User talk page (Namespace 2 or 3): The link should dynamically extract the username from the page title and point to
Special:Contributions/[Username](showing that specific user's edit history).
Please let me know if anyone require any further details or explanation. Feel free to ask. 🍁Bharatwiki Socrates🍁(📩) 16:27, 28 September 2026 (IST)

- I support this proposal. Adding a Contributions link to the top header would make it easier for editors to access their own or other users' edit histories without navigating through additional menus. This would be a useful improvement to the editing experience on Bharatpedia. Editorial Oversight(Talk with me) 16:43, 28 September 2026 (IST)
- I support this proposal. Adding a Contributions icon to the header would make accessing edit histories much more convenient, especially for editors who frequently review their own or other users' contributions. I particularly like the context-aware behavior on User and User talk pages. One small consideration would be to ensure that user subpages are also handled correctly, so pages such as
User:Example/Teststill link toSpecial:Contributions/Example. Otherwise, this seems like a useful and practical interface improvement. WikiDwarf (talk) 00:21, 29 September 2026 (IST)- Thank you for the suggestion WikiDwarf. Yes, user subpages should definitely be handled as well. 🍁Bharatwiki Socrates🍁(📩) 12:00, 29 September 2026 (IST)
- I agree with the above. In my opinion, there should also be a "Create account" button for logged-out users, because many users may not be aware that they can create an account to edit. The option is not clearly visible upfront so if there is enough space it worth adding extra button. Ajay Kumar (talk) 20:48, 29 September 2026 (IST)
Comments[edit source]
- Hello @Bharatwiki Socrates, Editorial Oversight, and Ajay Kumar: The proposal was sent to the tech team, and the first header changes are now on the site. Logged-out user see an info note, Create account, Log in, Donate, and a More menu. Logged-in editors see their username, a contributions link, and a user menu with their page, and other useful links. More also holds search, which lists matches as you type, plus Explore and common links. Language, dark mode, and font size are in that menu instead of sitting as separate buttons. The Discuss button has been removed from the top bar and will be added somewhere else. Please add your comment if you have any suggestion to improve it further. Thank you. - I have a different suggestion. I believe Bharatpedia needs more editors who actively contribute to the platform. This can only happen if more people become aware of Bharatpedia, as currently, very few people know about it, and many of its editors appear to have come from Wikipedia.
- I suggest that Bharatpedia organise occasional campaigns, events, and meetups to attract new contributors. Existing editors should also receive recognition for their contributions. Sharing event photographs, group pictures, and editor achievements on social media could help increase awareness and encourage more people to join the community.
- Recognising good-faith contributors and organising community events can help build a stronger editing community. These initiatives could encourage new editors to join Bharatpedia and motivate existing editors to remain active. Editorial Oversight(Talk with me) 14:39, 2 October 2026 (IST)
- @Editorial Oversight Go to Bharatpedia:Village pump (idea lab), create a venue on it to discuss.....don't forget to ping me. After lil discussion, you can propose here for Consensus. 🍁Bharatwiki Socrates🍁(📩) 21:00, 2 October 2026 (IST)
- @WikiDwarf, I think the user-page contribution icon still needs an update. When viewing another editor's user page, the Contributions icon currently links to my own contributions. Instead, it should link to the contributions of the editor whose user page I'm viewing.
- So, if I open
User:Example, clicking the Contributions icon should openSpecial:Contributions/Example, not my own contribution list. 🍁Bharatwiki Socrates🍁(📩) 20:53, 2 October 2026 (IST)- BS, for that we already have the option in the right menu. Please see here. The top icon is to quickly view own contributions.WikiDwarf (talk) 20:59, 2 October 2026 (IST)
- Thanks, all fixed for desktop user but messed up for mobile users.[1] 🍁Bharatwiki Socrates🍁(📩) 21:07, 2 October 2026 (IST)
- Yes, I'm aware of those duplicate buttons in the top bar and they'll be fixed soon. WikiDwarf (talk) 21:09, 2 October 2026 (IST)

Add Frequently visited pages[edit source]
Can you add an easy button for frequently visited pages? It should also incorporate the ability to bookmark certain pages for quick access. @WikiDwarf Dokania (talk) 17:35, 28 September 2026 (IST)
AI edit summary[edit source]
GitHub uses AI for edit summary and other such petty tasks. It's very helpful. Can Bharatpedia utilise it too? I think one way to overshadow wikipedia is to utilise AI wisely as they are very conservative and hostile towards AI use. @WikiDwarf @Bharatwiki Socrates Dokania (talk) 17:37, 28 September 2026 (IST)
- I am writing Bharatpedia:AI and will mention a few editors for policy guideline improvements, including you. I strongly believe that people must adapt to the evolving times. If anyone uses AI for correcting minor grammatical or punctuation errors, grouping, and fixing reference syntax issues, there is no problem. However, the full responsibility falls on the user. If a user introduces any false information, possible sanctions will apply to them. Therefore, AI must be used responsibly. Users are not permitted to claim that an error is due to AI; they must take full responsibility. 🍁Bharatwiki Socrates🍁(📩) 17:53, 28 September 2026 (IST)
- Exactly my point. We can also issue guidelines on how to use AI efficiently and responsibly Dokania (talk) 17:58, 28 September 2026 (IST)
