 | This page in a nutshell: This page is a directory of Bharatpedia essays — pages containing the advice or opinions of one or more editors. Essays carry no authority and are not policies or guidelines. |
This page lists essays written in the project namespace. Essays are pages containing the viewpoint, opinion, or advice of one or more editors. They are not policies or guidelines, they bind no one, and they cannot be cited to settle a dispute.
For personal essays written in the user namespace, see Category:Bharatpedia user essays. Those are not listed here, since they are not community-editable and are not intended to represent anything beyond their authors' views.
Adding an essay to this list[edit source]
To add an essay, place an entry in the appropriate section below, in the following format:
* [[Bharatpedia:Essay name]] – one-line description of what the essay argues or advises
The description should be neutral and should make clear what position the essay takes. An entry reading "argues that the notability guideline is applied too strictly to local politicians" is appropriate; an entry reading "the best essay on notability" is not.
Essays should also carry the {{Bharatpedia essay}} banner, which categorises them automatically into Category:Bharatpedia essays. If an essay is listed here but is not in that category, the banner is missing.
About essays[edit source]
Essays vary widely in quality, length, and seriousness. Some are carefully argued and widely cited in discussions; others are personal notes that their authors have made public. The fact that an essay appears on this list says nothing about its merits.
Where an essay conflicts with a policy or guideline, the policy or guideline prevails. Where an essay is routinely cited to justify conduct contrary to policy, that is a matter that may be raised at the village pump.
