It came to our attention that some people are receiving the following spam email from a private email address. We do not claim to have a connection with Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation in any way whatsoever nor we (volunteers) ask for money in exchange for creating a page or editing this portal. This is a free encyclopedia and we welcome you to create or edit pages and share your knowledge with the world.

Subject: Regarding an Article in 'Bharatpedia'

Hello,

A recent article was noticed at the site en.wikipedia.ind.in which is:

This mail is to intimate that the site en.wikipedia.ind.in is a privately owned website having no connection with Wikipedia or Wikimedia foundation.

The website en.wikipedia.ind.in is a scam site made with a similar appearance to actual Wikipedia and the unfortunate fact is that some fraudsters are scamming people by telling that it is a Indian version of Wikipedia, which is not the case.

The site is only <age of the site> days old whereas Wikipedia is a 20 years old organization.

A word of advise:

If you wish to have your page in Wikipedia for real, its better not to get trapped with such scammers and rather you can simply request your name at the suggestion at Wikipedia (You can visit here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requested_articles). If you are notable already a page will be created by some editor and if you aren't, when you become truly notable( which is evaluated by the number of qualitative references available about you ), Wikipedia editors will create a page about you, and that too without any cost.

This is a part of an initiative to stop people getting scammed by fraudsters in the name of "Creation of Wikipedia Page".

We would like to declare that this is an attempt to defame this platform and such emails should be treated as spam and malicious. If you receive such emails please report them on the talk page or mail us at [email protected] and we will investigate the matter. If you wish to have a page on this website you can either create it yourself or you can also request at Wikipedia:Requested articles and someone with the knowledge will create one for you.

It also came to our attention that there is a campaign going on to defame this platform, as some people are posting false and baseless details on Quora and Reddit and we strictly oppose such activities. This is a free platform "we don't ask for money" to create/edit or update a page on this site. The site is completely open for everyone and anyone with or without an account can create/edit or update any page as per our local policies and guidelines. It must be noted that the same group even used some links on Wikipedia.org using different IP addresses such as 190.244.48.179 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), 197.40.74.14 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) with edit summaries like " I will pay $10 for link, contact me here https://en.wikipedia.ind.in/wiki/Special:Contact" (diff) and then 1.36.187.88 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) requested the sysops to list the domain into their spam list "can you mark it in spam link report, so that it can be verified?" (diff). They even abused one of the senior Wikipedia.org users (diff). We would like to declare that none of our team members has any connection with these IP addresses nor we attempted to cite our website on Wikipedia.org, this is an attempt to damage our reputation so their activities must be ignored.

Please note that we have informed the local cybercrime and police departments about this matter and a complaint has been registered (complaint number 12149/2021) for spreading false, misleading and baseless information in an attempt to defame Bharatpedia.
