The event coordinator user group is a proposed user group intended to help Bharatpedia contributors organize editing events, workshops and outreach activities.

The proposed group may include the following permissions, subject to technical availability and community approval:

  • Create multiple accounts for participants at approved outreach events, if the account creation limit can be bypassed.
  • Grant temporary confirmed status to eligible event participants, if Bharatpedia supports this permission.
  • Help participants learn how to create and improve articles.
  • Coordinate editing events and maintain records of participation.

The purpose of this group is to support new contributors and encourage participation in Bharatpedia.

Proposed usage standards[edit source]

Event coordinators should follow these standards:

  • Grant temporary permissions only to users who are actually participating in an approved outreach event.
  • Do not grant temporary permissions for more than 10 days.
  • Never share personal accounts or passwords with event participants.
  • Ensure that participants understand Bharatpedia's editing policies and guidelines.
  • Do not use event coordinator permissions to promote businesses, clients, individuals or paid editing services.
  • Encourage contributors to use reliable sources and maintain a neutral point of view.

Guidelines for granting permissions[edit source]

The event coordinator user group should be granted only to contributors who demonstrate a genuine need to organize Bharatpedia outreach activities.

Applicants should ideally:

  • Have a history of constructive contributions to Bharatpedia.
  • Understand Bharatpedia's policies and guidelines.
  • Have experience organizing or participating in editing events.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of account security and temporary user permissions.
  • Agree to follow the usage standards of the group.

Requests for the permission should be discussed by the community and reviewed by an administrator.

Criteria for revocation[edit source]

The event coordinator permission may be revoked if a user:

  • Misuses the permission or grants access to ineligible participants.
  • Violates the usage standards or account security requirements.
  • Engages in serious misconduct.
  • Uses the permission to facilitate undisclosed paid editing or promotional activity.
  • Remains inactive for 12 months.

An administrator may revoke the permission when necessary to protect Bharatpedia. Users may also request removal of their own permission.

If a permission is revoked, the user may discuss the decision with the administrator and request further community review.

Use[edit source]

Creating accounts for event participants[edit source]

If account creation privileges are approved for this group, coordinators may help participants create accounts during authorized events.

Before creating an account, the coordinator should:

  • Obtain the participant's requested username.
  • Ensure that the username complies with Bharatpedia's username policy.
  • Use the participant's own email address, where required.
  • Provide an appropriate reason for account creation, such as "Outreach event participant".

Coordinators must not create accounts for people who are not participating in the event or use account creation privileges for unrelated purposes.

Granting temporary confirmed status[edit source]

If Bharatpedia implements temporary confirmed status for event participants, coordinators should:

  • Verify that the participant is attending the event.
  • Check that the correct account is selected.
  • Grant only the permissions necessary for participation.
  • Set an expiry of no more than 10 days.
  • Record an appropriate reason for granting the permission.

If a coordinator grants permission by mistake, they should promptly contact an administrator to correct the error.

Responsibilities during events[edit source]

Event coordinators should help participants understand:

  • Article creation and draft submission procedures.
  • Reliable sourcing and verifiability.
  • Neutral point of view.
  • Copyright and licensing requirements.
  • Conflict-of-interest and paid-contribution disclosure rules.

Participation in an event does not guarantee that an article will be accepted or retained on Bharatpedia.

Technical implementation[edit source]

The proposed user group would require technical configuration by Bharatpedia administrators. The available permissions, account creation limits, temporary user rights and expiry settings should be confirmed before the group is introduced.

The community should approve the scope of the group and its usage standards before implementation.
