Barwar (caste)

Barwar is a sub branch of the Bais (Rajput clan). Barwar Rajputs are located in all of India, for example in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.[1]

The Barwar Rajputs fought for many Rajputs from 17th century to 1857 and against the British. The largest Bidro in Awadh province of the country, Barwar Rajputs had also captured some of the limited land of Awadh province. After the Bidro of 1857, it was all over.

The word Barwar derives from Baruwar. Both Barwar and Baruwar have the same lineage. The 2011 Census of India for Uttar Pradesh showed the Barwar population as 18,105.[2]
