Banaut

The Banaut/Bandawat (Bundela) are a branch of the Bundela Rajput found in the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, India. They trace their origin from Bundelkhand, Orchha Bundelkhand and Jhansi.

History and origin

The Banaut are found mainly in north-eastern Bihar. They have come originally from Orcha in Bundelkhand. The community are said to have left Orcha to escape the Mughals..The Banaut are distributed mainly in ,chouparan , Munger, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Saharsa, Katihar and Arariya. Rajput from Hazaribagh and Chatra in Jharkhand also from the same clan of Rajput.

Present circumstances

The Banaut speak Angika and most of them understand Hindi. They have their particular village deities such as Hanumanji, Ram-Janaki and Radhakrishna.
